Kim Tae-ho PD-founded content production studio TEO and film distribution company Waterhole Company have joined forces. The two companies have established a strategic partnership based on Waterhole Company's film lineup and announced new synergies by jointly promoting theatrical distribution, marketing campaigns, and expansion of new business channels for each film.
TEO, which established itself as a leading entertainment production company at its launch, continues to take on new challenges across various fields including the 'Earth Ma Bull World Travel' series, 'Good Day', Netflix's representative entertainment IP 'Devil's Plan', and the 'Physical: Asia' series. Waterhole Company emerged as a distributor by ranking first at the box office for imported films during the pandemic period, and has introduced numerous beloved films to audiences including 'Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train', 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' which won 7 Academy Awards, director Makoto Shinkai's 'Weathering with You', 'Pororo's Dinosaur Island Adventure', and 'Love Letter'.
The meeting between TEO, which has produced unscripted entertainment content, and a distribution company that handles scripted films has attracted market attention.
Kim Joo-hong, team leader of Megabox Content Planning Team, said "This is a unique combination that no one anticipated. I'm curious how TEO, which has established its presence in entertainment, will promote 2-hour immersive story content."
Kim Sung-hwan, CEO of About Film, who produced the films 'Extreme Job' and 'Wild Things', also responded saying "It's challenging for production companies to easily enter film distribution, so an entertainment production company's participation is novel. I'm excited to see the synergy these two companies will create through the release process."
Positive evaluations from the investment industry followed. Kim Han-gyeol, partner at Saehankchangup Venture Capital, said "The attempt to convey fun to theater audiences beyond TV viewers is fresh," and evaluated that "the strategy of expanding horizons with overseas content that has formed fan bases in a saturated domestic market will be a meaningful breakthrough."
Kim Hwan-chul, partner at Michigan Venture Capital, analyzed "It's notable that TEO chose Waterhole Company, a small boutique player that communicates based on taste and discernment rather than an established player. It's viewed as brand expansion centered on content taste rather than external growth, which is expected."
Co-CEOs Ju Hyun and Choi Seung-ho of Waterhole Company said "We deeply resonated with PD Kim Tae-ho and TEO who ponder between content taste and the public," adding "At a time when watching movies in theaters is becoming a subculture, we were able to share concerns, and the good films we've acquired will become an opportunity for them to reach audiences more closely."
Kim Tae-ho PD of TEO also said "I've gotten to work together with Waterhole Company, which has brilliantly introduced films I've loved. Even though the format differs, I believe there are no content boundaries that TEO cannot handle, and this will be an enjoyable attempt to expand our creativity and share tastes."
The two companies' first collaborative content is 'The Drama', A24's biggest anticipated film of 2026. Starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, 'The Drama', a record-breaking romance thriller that surpassed 200 billion won at the global box office, confirmed its theatrical release in September 2026. This will be followed by diverse lineups including 'Mother Mary' directed by David Lowery and starring Anne Hathaway, and 'Be With Me' directed by Bakuyu Kinoshita.
