The maritime war survival thriller 'Beast of War' will reach audiences through IPTV and VOD services starting from the 30th.
The film 'Beast of War' (directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, imported/distributed by Studio DHL), set against the backdrop of World War II, tells the story of the HMAS Armidale warship sinking after a surprise attack by Japanese fighter planes while heading to the front lines. With only 7 crew members surviving, they drift on a makeshift raft made from broken wreckage and face a harrowing battle with a giant man-eating shark.
Produced based on actual events from 1942, 'Beast of War' is not a simple shark creature film, but rather presents a narrative of conflict where the survivors doubt and distrust each other in the face of survival. As internal collapse looms, a massive great white shark attacks them, delivering a story without a moment to breathe. With only the screenplay and pitch, it achieved outstanding results as an Australian independent film production company, securing pre-sales in 15 regions worldwide and over 4 million dollars in pre-sales revenue at the American Film Market (AFM).
Director Kiah Roache-Turner, who has built a distinctive genre universe through 'Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead' and 'Sting: Invasion of the Extraterrestrial Spider,' directed this new work inspired by true events. The director completed a well-crafted survival thriller that goes beyond explosive dynamism and sensory style, meticulously delving into fragile masculinity in extreme situations, racial trauma, and invisible psychological wounds.
The completion was elevated further with the participation of special effects teams. Australian animatronics team 'Formation Effects,' which has handled animal VFX for major Hollywood productions such as 'The Hobbit' series and 'Meg,' and 'Resen,' which worked on VFX for 'Mortal Kombat' and 'Blackwater: Abyss,' joined the project to vividly bring the giant great white shark to life. Rather than relying entirely on CGI, 100% practical great white shark formations were utilized on set using marine safety materials and hydraulic systems to express overwhelming on-site presence.
