Actress Gu Hye-sun confessed to her life journey of choosing a difficult path on her own and revealed her philosophy behind pursuing an extreme minimalist lifestyle.
The 34th episode of MBN's issue-maker talk show 'Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night,' which aired on the 18th, recorded a highest viewership rating of 2.0% based on Nielsen Korea's nationwide standard.
On that day, Gu Hye-sun recalled her debut as an 'internet beauty queen' and the anecdote of making front-page news, as well as the era of 'Boys Over Flowers' that shook Korea. In particular, regarding the malicious comments pouring in as an actress in her 24th year, she displayed a strong mindset, saying, "After receiving them for about 20 years, there's nothing new. Rather, I take them as nourishment and motivation for my growth."
She also recalled a harrowing moment when she lost consciousness from anaphylactic shock during filming in the past, and revealed that facing the crisis of death helped her realize human dignity and changed her view on life.
Having experienced a brush with death, Gu Hye-sun also revealed her current status of practicing a minimalist lifestyle instead of glamorous stardom. She shared that during her university days, she lived in a gosiwon (small rental room) for a year, experiencing stress relief as her life became lighter, and that she currently wears only the same style of clothes. Furthermore, she informed viewers that she has a 'memorial room' where she keeps the cremated remains of her pet dogs, saying with touching sincerity, "I was able to endure alone thanks to my pets. I want to be buried with them when I die." She then shared the emotion of climbing Himalaya at 4,300 meters altitude after hiking mountains for 16 hours a day, but drew loud laughs with the plot twist that she returned having gained 8kg in body weight.
Gu Hye-sun expressed her gratitude, saying, "It feels like I appeared on a proper talk show after a long time," and viewers responded warmly to her solid character of continuing to challenge herself despite failures.
