Actors Lee Chae-min and Noh Yoon-seo have confirmed their participation in tvN's new drama "The Reason I Decided to Die."
tvN's new drama "The Reason I Decided to Die" (screenplay by Kim Sol-ji / directed by Choi Jung-gyu and Kim Hee-won / produced by Studio Dragon, Media Group Take Two, Red Nine Pictures, Big Ocean ENM), based on the popular webtoon of the same name by creator YUJU, is a time loop youth romance that tells the story of Cha Gyeol, a man trapped in an infinite time loop to save his beloved woman, and Nam Ji-o, a woman who confronts her fate to protect his life. The drama will convey deep resonance by incorporating pure love that transcends time to save a loved one, first love, and growth narratives.
The lineup of directors and screenwriter also heighten expectations. Director Choi Jung-gyu, who directed "Crown Prince" and "Devil Judge," and director Kim Hee-won, recognized for her directing skills through "Vincenzo," "Little Women," and "The Queen of Tears," will co-direct, and screenwriter Kim Sol-ji, who wrote "It's Okay, That's Love" and "Frozen Love or Something," will join forces to present a highly polished youth melodrama.
Lee Chae-min takes on the role of Cha Gyeol, a man who repeatedly dies and returns to save his beloved Nam Ji-o. Cha Gyeol is a character with a reverse charm who shakes Ji-o's heart with his unpredictable attitude that alternates between kindness and coldness, and his skillfulness. He carries childhood wounds, dreams of happiness after meeting Nam Ji-o, but after losing her, he repeats the same spring by turning back time. Following "Chef of the Tyrant," Lee Chae-min will lead his second tvN starring role and has promised touching pure love and deepened emotional acting.
Noh Yoon-seo plays Nam Ji-o, a taekwondo prospect who dreams of Olympic gold medals. Nam Ji-o is a positive queen and a Korean eldest daughter who does not give up on her dreams despite poverty. She possesses a bright smile and upright character, but after facing a crisis where her dreams collapse due to an unexpected injury, she meets Cha Gyeol and experiences fateful love and a turning point in her life. Noh Yoon-seo, who has appeared in works such as "One Scandal," "20th Century Girl," "Cheongseol," and "Crown Prince," takes on a deeper acting transformation through a clear and resilient character.
Lee Chae-min and Noh Yoon-seo, breathing together for the first time in approximately three years since "One Scandal," will play lovers who jump into the boundary between life and death for each other and present new youth chemistry. The production team said, "It is a work that depicts the love of two youths who protect each other transcending time," and emphasized the delicate emotional acting and synergy the two actors will show.
tvN's "The Reason I Decided to Die" is scheduled to be released in 2027.
